Why LED is still not the ‘only-option’?

Cost: LED lights are still costlier than other light sources and that is a major reason why LED lighting is still not being used 100%.  However, when you look at the entire cost of the LED lighting and include electricity over the 30,000 hrs of life of a typical LED bulb, you soon realize how expensive traditional lighting is.
Awareness is the second point. A lot of people are still not aware about this technology. Once more people start using this, the price of the product will automatically climb down. LED lights are undoubtedly most energy saving illuminants available in the market. Switching to LED lights can bring you 60% to 80% power savings – that’s definitely an attractive figure in respect to modern upsurge of prices. Two main advantages of LED are:
1] Being monochromatic entire light generated is used; wastage is minimal with LED. Whereas, incandescent bulbs or tube lights use colored filter during transmission – lights beyond the frequency of the filter are wasted.
2] Light Emitting Diodes are directional – entire light generated is sent towards the lens; in case of incandescent light sources, generated light should be sent towards the lens and a considerable percentage of light is lost in this process.
It is clear that LED light sources are much more energy efficient; hence using LED lighting in residential or commercial applications is always beneficial.
The monochromatic and directional nature sometimes limits the usage of led light bulbs in creative commercial or business lighting applications. Further improvement will definitely remove these limitations.
