Aiming to the fact that high power LED street lights will become the mainstream of the LED lights market in the coming years, NXP brought out a PFC Green Chip of SSL4120 which can support the high power LED applications high to 400W, at the moment, this project has already in force, the samples will be appeared on the market soon. SSL4120 totally works with the main electric application; it can be turned on from the rectification general main electric voltage between 90 and 305 volt. What’s more, it also works with the THD which is lower than 10%, the PF which is higher than 0.97 and the classical 380 kHz PFC frequency, which meet and even bypass the traditional requirement of the high power LED lightning application of led light bulbs such as the office lightning, malls and supermarkets lightning, high tent and low tent lightning, parking lightning, squares lightning and the streets lightning.
As for the competition between single stage and secondary LED driver architecture NXP is the prove and defender of single stage for the following reasons are that firstly, NXP has a long year advantage in the single stage, secondly, the single stage can integrate into the high pressure MOSFET tube, thirdly, it is easy-in-use. It only takes two weeks to finish this one. And the last reason is that the single stage is 10-15% cheaper than the double stages BOM and single BOM.
Some LED lights supplier do the research of inviting the integrated drive of the IC parts, however, it is only a temporary situation and won’t become the main trend in the LED lights industry. It is hard for the LED enterprises to do the electronics, in the future; it may be more professional and diversify.
